The Journey of Salruk

Dawn of Salruk emerged in 1987 as our founder Lesley Senanayake entered into the clay industry commencing a clay roof tile manufacturing factory in the scenic village of Thambakanda, Sri Lanka. As time passed by, witnessing the monotonousness in the roofing tile industry, Lesley wanted to add value to clay and embrace the world of terracotta and ceramics. During this period, he met a wonderful personality Mr. Sivanadiyan who is known to be the father of the Sri Lankan ceramics industry that rendered great commitment and value for its development. With prolonged discussions about the finest art of pottery and embracing cutting-edge technology to create innovative clay pieces, Mr. Sivanadiyan and Lesley successively laid the foundation for Salruk Ceramics and Pottery in 1992.

Salruk soon reached international heights by extending its network to Denmark and the UAE. In 1997, Salruk Ceramics and Bhagya Arts & Crafts opened its doors to local pottery lovers by opening its flagship store at Kapuwatta, Ja-Ela. Ever since then Salruk has been adding value to Sri Lankan traditional pottery industry by pioneering with its resemblance of quality and excellence. Salruk products have reached lengths and breadths of the country; President’s House, Bandaranaike International Airport, BMICH, Cinnamon Grand and Ulagalla Resorts to name a few. In 1995, Salruk won the bronze award at the Pottery & Ceramic Exhibition conducted by the National Crafts Council. In 2005, Salruk introduced a revolutionary terracotta clay water filter backed by years of research and development. The modern, environmentally friendly and innovative Salruk terracotta water filter was recognized by SUNFO as the best product in celebration of the World Water Day 2021. Quality is one of the core values at Salruk. Our strength remains on the newer designs we innovate to take authentic Sri Lankan craftsmanship to international competitiveness.
